First off, I have not read the other books in this series, and while I was concerned that this might be an issue, it wasn't. The prologue covers enough ground to set up the basics about the story, and the rest isn't too hard to catch up with. Still, I do recommend starting this series from the beginning.

Alyx and Chase are one of the few chosen ones, who jump dimensions every month...and that since their 18th birthdays. The jumps are random, landing them in one of twelve possible dimensions. In this read, they land in Dimension 9 and are accompanied by their pet chimera, who thanks to the lack of magic in this dimension, appears to be a normal puppy. They immediately find themselves saving another version of Chase's best friend, Mason, as he tries to commit suicide...and that's where the adventure begins.

Although this is a book about dimension jumping and a race against an evil, who is trying to kill off the dimension jumpers, this novel one has an interesting sense of 'normality'. After saving Mason, Alyx and Chase enroll in a usual high school in attempt to help the boy (after loosing Mason in another dimension, Chase is determined to rescue him in this one). This sense of usualness gave an interesting contrast to the rest of the action and added a refreshing twist.

Alyx and Chase work well together and have a wonderful relationship. Their support and team work is inspiring, and even when they don't always agree, they manage to work things out. This is especially important as the several twists hit, and Chase discovers more than a small surprise or two about his own family and past.

It's clear that another book is on its way, and it will be interesting to see where things head next. I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed the mix of contemporary and scifi/fantasy.

I received a copy of this book from Black Rose Writing, Librarything and Bookfunnel in exchange for a review.

Chase and Alyx landded on yet another dimension. Bo, their Chemara from dimension 7 runs away from them, and when following him, they discover that Chase's friend tries to kill himself by jumping from a bridge. Just in time they could rescue him, but when the police and ambulance arrives Mason claims that Chase was the one bullying him to jump. After being questioned about this they are send away from the policestation.

Chase decided that it was a good idea to enroll in school again, but Alyx is against. Still they end up in highschool again, where they discover that someone is bullying Mason in a terrible way. This has gone on for years, without Mason daring to take action. Later they learn that the schoolbully had many more victims to bully, but that his favourite was Mason.

During their one month stay in this dimension, Chase discovers that the schoolcounselor is in fact his father, and that he has a brother and sister in this dimension.

This book was a great read, and although I had read the previous part some years ago, I was quickly back in the world of this books. Someone told me that there was going to be a fourth book, so I guess I have to wait for it to become available. Also, going to look for the first part in the serie.

I won this book through a LibraryThing giveaway without realizing it was the third in a series (my bad). I went ahead and read it anyway and thoroughly enjoyed it. The author provided enough of the back history from volumes 1 and 2 that I easily made sense of what was going on. The story kept me engaged to the very end, but it does deal with some dark issues. I plan on reading the first two in the series now. A very riveting YA fantasy novel!

I received this book for an honest review. This is the story about two teens who are labeled keepers. They have special watches of which only a small number were ever made and can only be used by people of specific bloodlines and birthdates. These two teens Alyx and Chase are destined to travel 12 dimensions within a year starting on their 18th birthday. The beginning of the book goes over all you need to know. I didn't read book 1 and don't feel like I was behind in the story, this appears standalone. That said, after reading this story I will need to go back to see what I missed and forward to continue the story. The story has very frequent chapter breaks, basically every couple pages as it is told from both main characters and a few supporting characters viewpoints. It doesn't detract from the story, rather keeps it going quite well. Easy to read and keeps a very good pace. Overall a very good story.… (més)
