Mike Wilson along with his wife, Terri, their daughter, Jen, and son, Chris leave London to move into a house out in the country. Mike has lost his job and needed a place to stay, so his Uncle Rob let Mike and his family stay in a house that he had bought. The house is nestled in the woods with a beautiful lake off to the side.
When Mike's family sees the house, they wonder about if it was the right thing to do with moving in as the house is in much need of repair. Mike doesn't think anything of it, but his wife and kids have other thoughts. Chris says something to Mike about the house seems to be haunted. Mike told Chris that there are no such things as ghosts and that the house was just old.
When the family gets settled in to the house, little things start happening at first with faces in the windows and apparations appearing here and there throughout the house, but Mike and Terri just think that it is their imagination as they don't believe in ghosts. When their daughter Jen becomes fascinated with the woods is where concern starts gnawing within Mike and Terri as they don't think it is safe for Jen to be out in the woods.
When MIke starts hearing rumors about the house in town is when he begins to wonder what kind of place they moved in to and he starts trying to find out the history about the house. What he finds is beyond anything that he can imagine as a great evil has pentrated not only the house, but the woods and lake as well.
What does Mike find out about the house? What kind of evil is lurking on the property? Who is haunting the house? Are the apparations real or is Mike just imagining them? No spoilers here as you will just have to read the book!
This book starts off with a bang in the prologue and doesn't let up till the end. This was a very scary atmospheric haunting and it grabbed me right away with things that were happening to the family. The author just slowly draws you in to the story and wraps the ghostly happenings around you making you experience the same trepidation that the family was experiencing. Fast pace with twists and turns throughout the story!
I would normally give a book like this five stars, but the ending kind of dropped off making you think that there might be a second book in the future as not everything is wrapped up in the end. There are unanswered questions to events that took place within the book, but it is still a great story as the haunting just sticks with you long after you put down the book. I would highly recommend this book as it would be great book to read around Halloween. Giving this one four "spooky" stars.… (més)
