I don't remember the last time I didn't finish a book. The rational part of me says there are too many good books to read to waste my time on a clunker, but some OCD part of me insists that I finish every book I start. Well, I couldn't finish this one, and after about ninety pages in, I realized that I wasn't even halfway through yet. And it took me something like six months to get to the ninety page mark.
The premise is interesting, and that is why I purchased the book (sigh...there's $11 I'll never see again): a botanist, a forest ranger, and some beautiful scenery. But the book is just so darned BORING. I don't care about any of the characters, and they're both so two-dimensional. They spend several pages just talking at one another in the last chapter I read, and the speech is completely stilted. No one talks like that in real life.
If this book had an editor, s/he should be ashamed. There are tons of missing commas, and there are several incorrect uses of the semi-colon. Yes, I know this isn't high literature, but come on, I still want to read a book that is at least attempting to follow the laws of grammar.
So I gave up on the book, and I can't remember the last time I gave up one!… (més)
