Update:
My main issue with the book is when the author in one instance claims white settlers involved in an incident had no intention of disrupting the natives. Really? Come on. That's just bullshit. Maybe the book was progressive for the time it was published but I think you can find this information from better sources.

One is struck by the rough and tumble world of the Congress over the years. Though this book only covers the beginning through 1975, one finds an entity that is thought to be, nay, hoped to be, a paragon of decorum which it sometimes was and often was not. Great events have taken place there and others events that we were not so great. Great citizens served there and some who were anything but great. The majority who have served have been ordinary people acting in ordinary ways. Extreme passion might be a good description of those who served. The point is that membership has been a cross-section of our country.… (més)
