“So far this is not my usual kind of story. As a hopeless romantic this book was a challenge for me and surprisedly a quite interesting story. Being plain honest it was kind of scary how this future was portrayed! The beginning was slow and complex but necessary to understand this complex society. What I like about this new societies stories are the test of moral, you’ll understand trust me, it’s easy to get lost in order to survive but fighting isn’t always a bad thing. This is a great dystopian future novel. I like the techno-military fantasy. Ian Kane cleverly postulates the police force as firms or companies because, with the poor services the police provide in cities like LA now, it is only reasonable that the rich and middle class purchase their own police services. His style reminds me of Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven, who developed a variety of characters organized around a central historical theme. This requires a lot more effort than simply developing one character. The protagonist, Kilbane, is believable as a product of his times, although he’s probably more extreme than most people alive now. The technology in this book is believable as are the historical and geographical developments shown. Kane shows clear humanism in his portrayal of realistic characters making hard, humanistic choices in difficult circumstances.… (més)
