A very well written travel documentary of traveling solo across Africa. The maps in the front of each section were very beneficial in providing the reader with a visual reference for that section of the journey.The writing was very clean and crisp and resulted in a very fast read. This was more than a "went here, went there" type of a travelogue -- the also provided a some of the personal journey, self discovery and to a degree enlightenment.

While I enjoyed it from a travel essay perspective, from a critical standpoint it could have been much more. With the experiences the author portrays I wish it had been a manifesto on his self awareness journey. For whatever reason we didn't get to peak behind the curtain and see some of the true inner turmoil that went on. If you read the afterward it becomes clear -- this book was written for his Mother and exposing those emotions to her was more than he could share.… (més)
