Albert Einstein is one of the greatest scientist in the world. However, this book does not go in to great depth about his life. I got very little information about his discoveries and his life. I think it is a great book for kindergardeners but not for any older.

I enjoyed this book, but it did not completely keep my attention. I am usually more attracted to the bright and colorful books, but this one was a little plain. One reason I really liked this book was the photographs and fun facts. A photograph was provided on each page and its caption shared a fun fact. For example, one page shows a photo of Albert on a boat and its caption reads, "One of Albert's hobbies was sailing." These features make the book feel a lot more personable. It is hard for us to relate to someone that lived in a different time period and we do not have some connection to. Another reason I like this story is because of its highlighted words and glossary. For a nonfiction book, these kinds of features are important to convey important information and key vocabulary. Because Albert Einstein was a scientist, vocabulary such as, energy, compass, and invent are highlighted. This book doesn't necessarily have a big idea, other than to convey Albert Einstein's contributions to science and what he was like as a person.… (més)

This book, for early readers, chronicles the life and accomplishments of American inventor Thomas Edison. I like this book for three reasons. First, the level of details incorporated are appropriate to the readers targeted. When discussing one of Edison’s greatest achievements, the text simply states that “he found a way to get power for heat and light into homes,” instead of discussing the complexities of alternating current relative to direct current. Another aspect of this book that I like is how each page discusses only one or two aspects of Edison’s life and accomplishments, accompanied by a photograph, which is captioned with the main idea of the page. One page tells how he did not invent the lightbulb, but instead made a better working model. The photograph on the opposing page shows Edison holding a large lightbulb with a caption that reads, “Thomas did not invent the lightbulb.” Finally, I like how Kesselring makes sure to incorporate some of Edison’s weaknesses, instead of only his strengths. A good example of this is when the book discusses the fact that he was home schooled by his mother because he had such a hard time learning in regular school.… (més)

This was a neat and cute little book that incorporated all of the important details about Albert Einstein. The author organized the events in chronological order which makes it easier for children to follow. This book was well put together for younger children. When it comes to biographies and informational text, children can get bored very quickly when there is too much information but the author found a way to make a balance between too much information and not enough. Another aspect of the book that I liked was the author made sure to put words that might be difficult for children in a bolded and different color font. She also included a glossary in the back of the book. I liked how the author put information on one page and then on the other page had a picture with a description. I think that a child might get a little confused because the pictures do not necessarily match perfectly with the text on the other page.Overall this is a well put together and organized book that is very informative. With the way things are written it is easy to remember. For example, when they talked about him getting a compass from his dad that he enjoyed and he wanted to learn more about science after that. That is a fact that a child can easily remember. Overall, this was a great biography book for a young child to learn about Albert Einstein.… (més)
