Biografia breu
Intisar Khanani grew up a nomad and world traveler. Born in Wisconsin, she has lived in five different states as well as in Jeddah on the coast of the Red Sea. She first remembers seeing snow on a wintry street in Zurich, Switzerland, and vaguely recollects having breakfast with the orangutans at the Singapore Zoo when she was five. She now resides in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her husband and two young daughters. Prior to becoming a full time mom (and writer), Intisar wrote grants and developed projects to address community health with the Cincinnati Health Department, which is was close as she could get to saving the world. Her approach to writing fantasy reflects her lifelong passion for stories from different cultures. She is currently writing a trilogy set in the same world as Thorn. This is her first novel.

This is a very enjoyable prequel novelette. While there is character development here, as a prequel you know in advance that there will still be plenty more left to resolve in the main books. I enjoyed getting to see more of Hitomi's time before the events of Sunbolt, though, especially how her friendship with Kenta developed.

I really enjoyed this story! I really enjoyed how Hitomi tried to do as little harm as possible in getting Stormwind free, and also how even though she felt guilty about what harm she needed to do, she was able to move on without beating herself up over it. The resolution to this book felt about as complete as I could hope for from a second book. The book's plot itself is resolved, but there's still a significant amount of series plot arcs that are waiting for the next book to get any closure. There are a lot more secondary characters in this book than there were in the first one, as well. And I really love some of those characters! Brightsong and Stormfall and Huda are all favorites. I really want to see what book three brings!… (més)

I really enjoyed how this book fed us worldbuilding information as we needed it instead of using any info dumps. I also really appreciated that the book had some darker moments and themes (one example: betrayal) without turning bleak or grim. It kept a generally positive outlook even when things seemed dark for Hitomi. This was a very fun read, and I'm glad I picked it up. I'm really looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.

I think Ms Khanani is an excellent writer. This novel length follow up was very enjoyable and I will be eagerly awaiting the next in the series.
