Donald Knies

I read this book almost fifty years ago and I still remember the impact it had upon me. Not that I went off on my own tour of the world, but the wonder of the author's own walking tour made a great impression upon a young teenager. Hitchhiking, with an emphasis on hiking, around the world Donald Knies visited forty-eight countries spending more than two years living and traveling around the world. Most fascinating was probably the people that he met and the welcome that he found in all corners of the world. While he was a young man--only twenty-five years old--he seemed quite a bit older to my senses at the time and provided a perspective that broadened the horizons of a small-town student in Wisconsin.… (més)
