Galina is one of my favorite authors on spirituality. Unlike many others, she puts the Holy Powers first, not human emotions or personal development -- which is what I believe is the appropriate order. (The other things are important, but that's not what devotional practice is about.)

I'd been off my path for a while, and this book helped me center and ground squarely into it again.

Galina is knowledgeable and passionate, and she walks her talk, which makes her a trustworthy guide. I don't know where other people get the impression that she thinks everyone needs to be like her; she explicitly says otherwise time and again. What she is not negotiable about is the primacy of the gods, spirits and ancestors. Someone who wants to do "spiritual practice" just to feel good, or as a hobby is not going to be comfortable with this book (or any of Galina's other work).

Anyone who walks a path of devotion to the Holy Powers could benefit from this book, especially the first part. The exercises and practices she describes are fundamental across all spiritual systems.

This is a powerful and beautiful collection of essays, poems, prayers, rituals, and reflections about and for Loki, his wife Sigyn, and Their sons Narvi and Vali. (His other wife, Angurboda, and Their children Hel, Fenris, and Jormungandr are named with respect, but are not a focus of this volume.) I did a lot of underlining of new insights, as well as marking devotional pieces to come back to and copy into my personal prayer book.

Galina Krasskova always brings a fine balance of academic knowledge and deep personal spiritual experience to her work, and this volume is no exception. I would highly recommend it to those who wish to know Loki and his family better in a devotional context -- and to those who argue against His place among the gods who are honored.… (més)

My favorite aspect of this book is the way the prayers illuminate different aspects of the deities to Whom they are directed. Offering a prayer a day through a seven day cycle takes the worshipper on a journey of discovery as well as devotion. Those journeys are rich enough that I consider it to have been a worthwhile purchase even though I have devotional relationships with only a few of the gods honored within.

It's clear that these prayers have emerged out of the intense personal devotional lives of the authors, devotion which combines deep spiritual engagement and scholarship.

Even if you don't worship Greek, Egyptian or Northern gods, I would recommend at least browsing this book for inspiration, and any religious person could benefit from reflecting on the prayers to Pietas, Who is Piety Herself.

Galina Krasskova writes with a compelling combination of academic knowledge, personal experience, and holy passion about her relationship with Odin. Her essays about her personal experiences are eye-opening, and her devotional poetry is fit to sit on a shelf next to Mirabai, Rumi, and other god-drunk mystics.
