I was pulled into this story from the very beginning.
Hubbard New York appears to be a sleepy little town with not much out of the ordinary happening.
Of course there are the residents that seem a bit odd, but they've been a part of the community forever so people accept them.
So it was truly unexpected to have a body with a hole in it's head fall onto a local handy woman when she is out scouting for functional discards. Trying not to alarm the owner of the property where the body is discovered, as junkman Tom has his own peculiar personality, she leaves the body while she drives into town to notify the authorities.
If you have never lived in a small community you may not understand that they have their own ways of handling situations.
Tom and the body both disappear, and then stranger things begin to happen.
Hubbard is not so sleepy and uneventful after all.
The detective assigned to the case is engaged to be married to a local girl who happens to be the newspaper's key reporter. Between them they seem to know all about what is going on around the local area.
Plus they have friends and family that all end up involved in some fashion.
Except for the fact there has been a murder, this novel welcomes you in and makes you feel at home.
You'll love trying to fit together the clues and decide who is telling the truth.
Maybe you'll also get involved in a little romance while you read.
I was gifted a copy of this book, but I truly did enjoy my time spent with these characters/
I look forward to reading more of Janis Lane's writing.… (més)
