ABeCedarium : an exhibition of alphabet books, the… de Barbara Lazarus-Metz
Charmingly bound exhibit catalog of hand bound books. The catalog is spiral bound, with file tabs for the artists- in alphabetical order of course! J is for jury, and of course, I is for the index. The books range from classical tooled leather bindings to a more whimsical volvelle (revolving wheel) for the disappearing alphabet. The pictures are lovely, and I wish I could have seen the exhibit.
This spiral-bound exhibition catalog has images of all the abecedaria from the show along with written descriptions. The structures range from traditional codices, to miniatures and tunnel books and (maybe my favorite) a flip book with a volvelle on the cover!
The catalogue itself is an alphabet book. Each entry is tabbed with the binder's name (like a file folder) and when there was no binder associated with a letter, a substitution was found. "Notes" for the letter "N", the jurors' names for "J", and for "Q" -- "QUEEN'S . . . errrr. . .PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE".
