"A graphic novelist and comics illustrator who has garnered international acclaim, Jeff Lemire paid tribute to his rural roots in his remarkable trilogy, Essex County (Top Shelf Productions), and the world of comics responded with a plethora of major prizes and rave reviews. Lemire is considered an indie artist, but he has received plenty of mainstream recognition in his field. In 2008, he took the Joe Shuster Award for Best Canadian Cartoonist. That same year, Essex County won the American Library Association's prestigious Alex Award, which celebrates books for adults that also have teen appeal. He has also won multiple Eisner Awards, which are regarded as the Oscars of the comics world. The prolific writer and cartoonist is also the author of Sweet Tooth, a monthly comic series that centres on Gus, a little boy with antlers, and Jepperd, a hulking bounty hunter. In addition, Lemire writes the Superboy and Atom comic series for DC Comics, and has contributed to anthologies for Dark Horse and Image comics. He has also illustrated album covers for bands such as catl and Art Brut. Essex County was originally published in three parts; his fourth graphic novel, The Nobody (DC Comics/Vertigo), was published in 2009. Born and raised on a farm in Essex County, Ontario, Jeff Lemire now lives in Toronto." 2011 CBC Canada Reads blurb
