Volker Leppin

Leppin bases Luther's early work on late medieval mysticism. While in the medieval period this mysticism and scholasticism were both present, in the 16th century they became opposed and the difference politicized.
As others also wrote on the same mystical basis, but had come to other conclusions, Luther tried to limit the acceptable directions for theology to take.
