Charlie is a boy with a huge imagination. When his dog, Max, wants to go out, Charlie reluctantly takes him to the dog park where he can play off leash. Back to his imaginary story, Charlie does not pay attention to Max and he leaves the park. Charlie must head out into the streets of New York to corral his mischevious beagle. From the subway to the streets to a pizza parlour to Central Park, with help from the police and a pedi-car driver, Charlie finds Max, then loses him again more than once. With lots of chaos and excitement, Charlie sees people and places that he has never seen before. There are also some philosophical characters who help Charlie see that he should make the most of every day. One quote: "Charlie, you alone control your energy. Your happiness and sadness ... your fright, excitement. Your Path. It's a big responsibility, no doubt! But don't let it scare you. Sometimes, oftentimes, the goal is bigger than what it takes to get you there."

New York is illustrated in bright colors and amazing artwork. The cartoon like illustrations are fun to look at and admire. They add to the dreamlike experience in the story.

This graphic novel is for older kids and even adults to appreciate the journey is just as important as the goal. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.… (més)

Let me just go ahead and say this: If you even think you want this book or have the slightest interest in "Max & Charlie" - Stop reading this and buy the book right now. It is that good and it is that wonderful of a graphic Novel.

Max & Charlie could be silly and playful but it could also be just as touching and profound, that is partially what makes this book so great!

The Artwork is beautiful, I don't know how Louis Neubert could do it. The book itself is printed on really nice, thick, glossy paper. And the Hardcover and binding make the book feel substantial and feel really special.

If it is for a young kid or adult kid I think it's never too late to get in touch with your inner whimsy. Zack Lieberman helps us do just that! Bravo!… (més)

Max and Charlie is a graphic novel for middle graders about the adventures of Charlie, a very imaginative boy, and Max, his unconditional beagle.
Max really is very creative and dreamy boy, with a impressive inner world, and he includes Max in all his adventures, for example exploring the universe aboard the SkyFhiter 3030, and saving an important crystal to deliver it to Earth.

One afternoon they are having a pleasant time at the park when Max sees a cat. Max chasing the cat, and Charlie chasing Max, they end both in NYC. Charlie doesn't know where his dog is, and his big adventure starts when he wanders around the city trying to find him. Charlie meets many people, and visit many places in an intriguing trip where is difficult to know what is reality and what is Charlie's rich imagination.
The art is beautiful, the use of colors wonderful, and the expressiveness of the characters amazing.
I think this is a very interesting options for kids and teenagers who enjoy graphic novels and dreamy plots.

Age range: 10 years old and up.
