George A. Lindbeck (1923–2018)

This is an excellent collection for ecumenical discussions of justification specifically and soteriology more generally, and is also a useful resource for ecclesiology and ecumenical studies as there is some discussion of the methods by which various confessional traditions can as a whole ratify documents such as the Joint Declaration. The paper by Orthodox scholar Karras is outstanding with its broad and thorough treatment of the relevant issues in historical context, detailed footnotes, reference to mistranslations in the Latin scriptures available to Western theologians, and candid discussion of Eastern distaste, disagreement, or puzzlement concerning various Western concepts and methodologies. The contribution from a Pentecostal perspective is also notable.… (més)
