Four high school students get involved in the search for the titular spire via the suicide notes of a friend/schoolmate. One of his best friends wants the story of how he found the spire to be false for his own absolution; the schoolmate who rejected him wants it to be true to absolve her, and the narrator quickly develops a crush on her as well, while never sparing his friend and fellow ghost hunter Kerry a thought in that department. Of course they should have stayed safely at home, but the sound of the bells draw them in.

So happy I finally read this.
