Sasha is serving as a bride’s maid for “the wedding event of the winter,” when she and her sister Maddie discover the body of the almost universally disliked best man. There is no shortage of suspects from among the many women of the bridal party who admit to a past with him or the men of the bridal party who felt cheated during a bachelor party poker game.

Once again Meg Macy has created a murder mystery that is thought out and well organized, leaving several feasible suspects to keep the reader guessing until the very end. Like always, the character subplots and the interactions of the town’s people are the life of the story. While the whodunnit fuels the story, I was really very interested in the new shops in town, the new neighbors, and the new gossip. It is small touches like that that will keep this series going forward. That plus adorable bears that I wish I could order.

So, why should you read this book? The author has a captivating writing style and has offered an array of colorful characters along with a genuinely interesting and suspenseful plot. There is substantial mention of the previous books in the series, but this could probably be read alone with few issues.

When Will Taylor, the sales rep for The Silver Bear Shop and Factory, turns up dead on the factory floor, store manager Sasha Silverman finds herself digging for clues to prove her Uncle’s innocence after some rather heated threats makes him the prime suspect. If that weren’t enough, the murder has shut down her business on a holiday weekend, her parents seem to have gone AWOL, half her staff is quitting or suspected of criminal activity and she has to ask her cheating ex-husband for help.

This was a terrific first installment of a new series. Sasha did a fantastic job of taking us on a tour of her small Michigan town and introducing us to her neighbors. By the time the book was finished we were old friends, caught up on the old gossip and we know just who to keep an eye on in the coming books. I am sure I am not the only reader who wishes she could pop online and pick up a teddy bear. Meg Macy has written a small town atmosphere with a modern day vibe and while shop names may be cutesy there is very little cliche here.

The backbone of this story is the teddy bear factory and the family that runs it. The behind-the-scenes of a teddy bear factory fit in nicely with the unwinding clues, providing the perfect balance of story and mystery. It is quite an enjoyable read with lots of false trails and red herrings to keep the readers fully engaged.

Sasha Silverman manages the Silver Bear Shop and Factory, the family business. But Sasha also manages to get drawn into murders that happen in town. This time a former rival teddy bear maker is found murdered in the woods with an axe in his back. Not only was Sasha's father, Alex, not a fan of the victim because of his business practices but he is a champion ax thrower and was seen practicing for the Highland Fling games in the area where the body was found.

Sasha is determined to found out who really axed the victim before her father is flung into jail.

As an arctophile (teddy bear lover) this not just a regular cozy mystery for me but an opportunity to cuddle up with my teddy bear and read. The people who work at the Bear Shop come across as loving their jobs. How can you not enjoy a teddy bear story!

Bear a Wee Grudge by Meg Macy is the 5th A Shamelessly Adorable Teddy Bear Mystery series. It can be read as a standalone if you are new to the series, but I recommend reading this cute series in order. Sasha Silverman manages the family’s teddy bear shop in Silver Hollow, Michigan. She is looking forward to the upcoming Highland Fling weekend. It is a first for their cozy village. The only bone of contention is the obnoxious Teddy Hartman who is determined to make life difficult for the Silverman’s. The family is checking out the festival grounds where people are practicing for the highland competitions. When Sasha’s father, Alex and Gil are hunting for a missing weapon, they find Teddy dead with an axe in his back. Detective Phil Hunter arrests Alex before forensics is even collected. Sasha must work quickly if she is to prove her father’s innocence. I thought Bear a Wee Grudge was well-written with developed characters. The pacing is a little slower in this story, but the mystery kept me interested. I like the setting of Silver Hollow. It is a charming small town with quaint shops and friendly residents. I love all their festivals and activities. I enjoy the teddy bear theme and camaraderie at the factory. The whodunit was a fun one to solve. There are a number of suspects to consider and clues along the way to help solve the crime. Sasha actively investigated the murder, and she asks good questions. There is humor in the story along with plenty of warm moments with family, friends, and Sasha spending time with her kind beau. Bear a Wee Grudge is a craicing good time with Highland Fling fun, tartan teddy bears, an axed antagonist, an indolent detective, a frustrated family, cruel chatter, a mean Morkie, and a sleuthing Sasha.… (més)
