The use of numbers in this book is kind of upsetting. Why would you write 2 instead of two? I will never understand that, even as a stylistic device. Idc.

Aside from that, solid book, good start, captivating from the beginning, keeps you hooked. Has a bit of a fan fiction vibe to it, which isn't necessarily bad, if that's what you're into.

I feel like the pacing is a bit weird and the ending feels rushed. The whole time I didn't know what anything looked like, because the descriptions were quite short, which I usually appreciate, but somehow it didn't work for me here.… (més)

I’m changing my review so that it’s actually coherent and not just negative with no reasons given for my negativity. It’s been a long time since I read this now. But I remember being really annoyed because it was a catchy book and I couldn’t put it down but at the same time I REALLY wanted to put it down and just be free from it. I didn’t like it, it was cliché and tropey and annoying and the main character was a total “not like other girls” situation and only became beautiful once some guy told her she was. The plot devices were too obvious and convenient. It was not in a satisfying way at all. Overall I don’t recommend this book but I did get through it.… (més)

Yes, wade through the rivers of purple prose with me. Two books in and nary a liberation to be found. The men here are all in-universe handsome and mystified by Alizeh. We’ve got a tortured sad boy who originally wanted to be a magical nun vs conceited narcissist who thinks everyone is beneath him. Alizeh is still unremarkable. She is kindhearted but not much else.

People are always on the brink of death here but never actually dead. Cyrus is strung out akin to a drug addict for Alizeh. If she bats her eyes at him, he loses 75% of control over his entire body. Her putting a hand on his chest had him seconds from exploding.

BUT this book series is entertaining, so who are me to judge? I did rate this lowly due to the sheer repetitiveness of dialogue and character monologue. So much of this filler could’ve and should’ve been cut.

Also, you just know a woman is writing this lol. In Cyrus' deepest desires/wet dreams, he fantasizes about eating Alizeh's kitty poetically so.

Also, I'll scream if Hazan and Cyrus are half-brothers. Please don't redo Shatter Me

It wasn't a bad read but kind of predictable in some elements and so it took me a bit long to finish reading. However what I consider a plot twist is what got me through it and on to the second book, I am interested in where the author Takes Juliette, Adam, Kenji and Warner.
