This book begins with a summary of the ways in which reliable energy can be produced. Although there are different fuels used, steam is the common product that is used to spin the magnets in the electrical generator. In the next chapter the structure of an atom and the amount of energy which holds this structure together, is introduced. Next, there is a description of how nuclear energy is obtained from uranium to create steam.
Nuclear power plants, submarines, and PET scans are described as some examples of the peaceful uses of nuclear power. Some of the dangers from nuclear energy are described as nuclear plant disasters, atomic bombs, and radiation poisoning. The future of Nuclear energy is discussed primarily focusing on the building of safer plants, the benefits of a cleaner, cheaper energy and the storage of radioactive waste.… (més)
