This is a good series

Vampires, rotten rulers, family secrets with a sassy heroine and a dash of insta-love. There's a little bit for everyone in these books. Some things are a little on the nose, but there's plenty of surprises and lots of twists and turns. It's a thoroughly thought out and well written series.

Logan has been on the run for a very, very long time. After nearly being killed by a vampire, she can't stay anywhere long before he finds her again. The promise of a substantial inheritance leaves her with two choices, leave her new house and run again or stay for a while and fulfil the requirements of the will, get rich and be able to move somewhere where she will be safe.
The two men she met pull her in different directions, making her choice even harder. The lawyer Robert wants her to stay, while Constantine, the new king of the Blackstone clan, wants her gone yesterday. But, of course, it's not that easy since Logan reminds them of their lost love.

Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into the characters, except for Robert. Logan is downright confusing, playing everything close to the chest while knowing two men can actually help her. She kicked a vampire's ass (while not knowing that they even existed) and didn't freak out even a little bit about how or why. Nope, she just runs.
Constantine, our brooding king, is just a tad too standoffish to really like so far. He goes from hot to cold in an instant, and I was like, nope, Robert all the way.

The pacing was okay, with moments a bit too slow. The flow, however, was good, and it read very easily. I read the book in one sitting, hoping the action would pick up some speed, but it wasn't until the end that it got going.

The book was well written with no (noticeable) errors.
It has 345 pages, spread over 53 chapters and told from multiple points of view.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, and all in all, it wasn't a bad book. However, I think it just went a bit too slow for me. Also, I feel like the blurb is a bit misleading. It pretty much only talks about Constantine, while Robert is the one who is more present in this first instalment. That said, the premise is good, and the story itself is interesting, so I might still read the second book in the series.

Morgane lost her mother and sister to demons two years ago and she died twice before they were able to stabilize her. Since her attack she can see demons and sold everything in order to spend the rest of her life hunting and killing demons. She's a tough, kick ass woman and nothing is going to stop her from wiping demons from the earth. I loved her strength and willingness to keep fighting for those she cares about.

Loki and the other gods were banished to earth after he destroyed Asgard. While the gods live together and hunt Hel's demons to protect Midgaard, they aren't happy about it. Chicago is their territory and when they discover someone else killing the demons they are determined to hunt down the trespasser.

Loki can't believe Morgaine is human, certain she isn't what she claims to be, but he's drawn to her and defies Odin to protect her. When Odin punishes Loki she offers to do anything to get him freed and it sends her into Hel's domain, triggering the legend that might mean the end of the world.

This story is an interesting urban fantasy, but the romance isn't as strong and there are some editing issues. Loki spends a good chunk of the time threatening her but some unknown feeling of connection pulls them together. It makes the romance seem a bit forced.

Celina is off the charts intelligent, offered a full rides cholarship at the University of Chicago. She also has an abusive past and is currently being used by the big bad Orobus.

Fenrir, son of Loki was born a killer and destined to end the world. He's lonely and restless and has been craving what his father has with Morgane. While visiting the Otherworld he comes across a living being that shouldn't be there, when he pulls her to safety he changes Celina. When he finds her in the real world his protective instincts kick in. She's both dangerous and valuable to their cause in fighting Orobus and he'll do anything to keep her alive.

While there is HEA in that Celina and Fenris fall in love, the ending is abrupt and leaves you dangling in other aspects of the story. I liked these two, still don't like Odin and was totally creeped out by the changes in Morgane's sister but it's all seeds to future stories in the series. Welcome to a new twist on Norse mythology.
