I enjoyed reading this biography about Malcolm X. The book was very easy to read and follow. It started off with a table of contents that was short and to the point. The content of the book walks you through all the important things in his life and I didn’t have many questions after reading. The sentences written are very short as if they were written for a young child. I like this because it can inform people from all ages about Malcolm X. There were also bolded words within the text too because they are defined in the glossary at the end of the book. The pronunciations of those words are also in the back of the book too. There is also an index in the book, even though it’s a small one. Even though this book isn’t fiction, I’d say there are still different characters. They are the people that were in Malcolm’s life or related to him in any way. When the author mentioned them, she explained their significance to this story about Malcolm X. I found this very helpful. Since this is a biography, it is written in third person. There is no real plot because it just talks about his life. It actually tells a story though, so some of these details could be used as Malcolm’s story. Throughout the book, there are pictures of the people that they talk about on each page. At the bottom of the pictures, there is a small description of that person. That was really helpful that the pictures coincided with the passage because I got to see the actual person as well as read about them. This book definitely makes the reader think of how it was when the civil rights movement was going on. Unlike most biographies, I can say that this one was not biased at all because it even talked about Malcolm’s bad days when he was younger, which is good thing for the reader to know.… (més)

I loved this book for multiple reasons. The book begins with a table of contents. This nontraditional start made me try to predict on each page. The table of contents contains sections such as “Time to move, Getting ready, Staying overnight, your new house,” and etc. The second reason why I liked this book was because of the artwork. Instead of traditional drawing or painting the book contains photographs. Photographs help to make the story more real and show how significant an event moving. The book was one part narrative and one part informational. At the end of the book there was a glossary. Terms such as bedroom, moving truck, neighbor, box, empty, exploring, etc.” I think this book is helpful in explaining the topic of moving and how it should not be a bad thing. The big idea of the book is that moving takes a lot of work, but overall is good thing.… (més)

I think this was a cute children’s book. The first reason why I liked it is because it had a Table Of Contents at the beginning of the book. Very few pictures books include this. The Contents of this book included “Time to move, Getting ready, Staying overnight, Your new house,” and etc. The second reason why I liked this book was because it had actual photographs in it rather than the typical hand-drawn or painted pictures. Having these original photographs of the different children and families in their process of moving show that it is something that is real and that can happen to any family or child. Next, I liked how at the back of the book there was a page that included moving words. The page stated “If you are writing about moving to a new house, these are some of the words you might need to use: bedroom, moving truck, neighbor, box, empty, exploring, etc.” On the next page, there was further information that included different books for children, as well as adults, and websites that can help you and your family with moving! I believe that this is a great book that can motivate children to be excited about moving. The overall theme and message of this book is to help with the process of moving.… (més)
