Clement Clarke Moore grew up in Elmhurst, Queens, and graduated from Columbia College. He became a professor of Oriental and Greek Literature, as well as Divinity and Biblical Learning, at the General Theological Seminary of the Protestant Episcopal Church. He is best remembered today as the author of the 1823 poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" -- usually called "The Night Before Christmas" -- although it was published anonymously.
