Several local police officers searched for Simon but could not find him. The British Columbia police superintendent hired the Pinkerton Detective Agency from Oregon to help track and arrest the murderer. This he had done in the past with success. Two operatives went to Hazelton and searched for three years winter and summer to find Simon. They learned early that there was much local support for Simon from both natives and whites as MacIntosh was not a well liked man.
We know what the agents did every month because they wrote and mailed detail reports back to their home office. The reports give us detailed reports by which we can experienced the extreme cold and deep snow plus breaking through ice on a frozen river and the constant search for enough supplies to make it possible to search the immense area in which they thought Simon lived without having to curtail a trip to return to Hazelton to resupply.
The writer's style means that is not a readable book but still much of the information is fascinating and often gripping.… (més)
