The style of this book is very interesting and something I've never seen before. It starts off being told like any ordinary book, and then towards the end transitions to a wordless comic book scene, before going back to basic book form. The comic book scene shows Old Beaver as a super hero, single handedly defeating the construction developer. It is a very intense scene as Old Beaver shows the developer all of the harm big corporations are causing to nature. For an adult, or even an older child, it is very profound and sends a powerful message of the importance of conservation.… (més)

A story of environmentalism and preservation, Tomio Nitto's "The Red Rock: A Graphic Novel" is a unique mix of picture book and comics. The author tells the story of the human footprint on nature through the eyes of the Old Beaver. Old Beaver watches as bulldozers from the city infiltrate his beloved valley full of animals and natural habitats. All of his animal friends must flee their homes, but Old Beaver organizes a fight. A little girl from the city wants to save the forrest, she has a mysterious dream (in the form of comics) that shows Old Beaver as a super hero that saves the forrest.

A fun, innovative book that shares an impactful message to preserve the environment. Great for middle readers. Useful in school curriculum and library story time.
