The Lavender House in Meuse by Gail Noble Sanderson could be an interesting book on women, their role(s) in WWI, and the cost the war took on both the lives of these women and the men who lived through this most devastating conflict, but it fell short. Marie and all of the characters in the book were flat and never really acquired any depth throughout the entire story. And they could have been such full of life and vibrant people, ones you truly cared about. Also, the title of the book is misleading for lavender has such a small role here, as does honey, which she tries to play up a bit at the end of the book. It could have been richer by far with more attention to both and I was sadly disappointed in what had the potential for a very good book.… (més)
