DRUMS ALONG THE CONGO PA de Rory Nugent

I'm not sure what's going on with this book. Why does this man wan to find the Bokele-Mbembe? Because it might be there? Is he a scientist? An explorer? A dillettante? With no real context, introduction or conclusion, it's almost like a magazine article that went waay too long. I'm baffled by the postivie reviews I've read about this book.
