Lots of oral history
This took me quite a while to read, but it is a mostly interesting blend of current travel with historical episodes recounted. The author and family members and friends retraced the western trails in the early 1940s. The LDS section was pretty short, but there were some good stories retold. The Oregon and California trail pioneers often had a rough time of it!
