Christopher James Paolini (born November 17, 1983) is an American author. He is best known for The Inheritance Cycle, which consists of the books Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, Inheritance, and the follow up short story collection The Fork, the Witch and the Worm. His first science fiction novel, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, will be published on September 15, 2020. He lives in Paradise Valley, Montana, where he wrote his first book.

Following his high school graduation, he started his work on what would become the novel Eragon, the first of a four-book series set in the mythical land of Alagaësia.

In 2002, Eragon was published for the first time by Paolini International LLC, Paolini's parents' publishing company. To promote the book, Paolini toured over 135 schools and libraries, discussing reading and writing, all the while dressed in "a medieval costume of red shirt, billowy black pants, lace-up boots, and a jaunty black cap." He drew the cover art for the first edition of Eragon, which featured Saphira's eye, along with the maps on the inside covers of his books.

Vast sci-fi that’s packed full of info and events. It was overwhelming to read, but I enjoyed it. I’m disappointed with the ending but I also agree it had to be this way. I’m a sucker for endings and this one has me torn. Still a great story though.

A pleasant return to Alagaësia. Murtagh's story was one of finding himself and his place, and dealing with his a Thorn's dark past. The book also works as an introduction to a new threat that will play role in following installments (Murtagh is apparently not considered book 5).

Eragon and Eldest are always going to be one of those books that brought me to reading (right after Harry Potter), so there is a lot of nostalgia involved when I read them.

Eldest holds its own on re-read thought. You can see the improvements in writing and story building. Now, I know a lot of people get bored with Roran's POV, but I think it's important for the story. It gives it more depth, showing the lives of the common people, those that are going to get swept into this war of magic and dragons.

I also liked Eragon's studying. There is quite a big focus on him learning to think and understanding why he fights his enemy. And it changes his character noticeably. I am not saying it's rare, but a lot of fantasy training focuses mostly on how to swing the sword and throw magic spells.
