How I hate the word millennial-makes me feel gas lit for a failing economy. But I love talking about all things pop culture growing up as a said "millennial".
Grace Perry did an amazing job of weaving together her own experiences with our generations favorite pieces of pop culture. Harry Potter, T-Swift, Real World, The L word and personal favorite The OC. Although, I didn't follow a couple of the others- Glee, Road Rules- she did an amazing job of painting the scene getting to the point of how they impacted our generation and more importantly her as a gay woman.
I found myself laughing out loud times in many chapters, and replaying how these pop culture phenomenon impacted me and my friends.
I look forward to reading more from Grace Perry

This book interested me on two levels: That outrageous title and the fact that the 2000s marked a very important time in my life (high school, college, & a move to NYC).

This is a collection of essays that center on pop events/icons of the 2000s that either resonated with the gay community or had a profound effect on the author during her journey of self-love and expression as a queer woman. From Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" to the iconic TV show "The L Word" she covers the gamut of pop culture phenomenons with self-deprecating panache. It was a fun, quick read that I especially enjoyed because I remembered vividly several of the songs, TV shows, and cultural "moments" that she mentioned. Ah, nostalgia.… (més)

I thought this book was really nice. I found it in parts a little boring if I didn’t understand references. But overall this book is inspiring to see how the “aughts” shaped Perry and others her age into who they are now.
