Scottie wrote this book in response to the Last Dance doc about Michael Jordan. Pippin felt insulted by Michael making him the hero of the documentary and forgetting basketball is a team sport.

So much of the book focused on the that theme of teamwork. And a lot of the book came off as spiteful toward the Bulls and especially Michael.

I actually enjoyed the pre-college years of this book more. The basketball part could have been improved. Most of it was dry and just putting stat lines.

Scottie Pippen is my all-time favorite NBA player, so of course I loved this book. I was a little surprised how embittered he was and how many grudges he has. The book’s voice feels authentic and exciting and made me want to keep turning the pages even though it wasn’t a total surprise what was going to happen next. I liked reading about his early days. The meteoric rise to sports stardom turned all those guys into a strange combination of sophisticated and unworldly. The first time he ever went to the beach was during the Barcelona olympics! I would have liked to hear more about his kids and personal life—it was all pretty vague. But it was very clear that this book was solely about basketball and setting the record straight.
