He indicates the points of contact between the methods of Holmes and those of his great contemporaries Sigmund Freud, Francis Galton and Alphonse Bertillon; he points out the differences in thinking between the society of Holmes's time and that of our own; and he offers pertinent observations on Holmes's disappearance after Reichenbach.
This attractive 176-page paperback is a valuable addition to the fairly small number of books that actually illuminate the characters of Holmes and Watson. My only gripe is that there's no index and no bibliography.
