I liked this story and the characters. It felt like a mix of Stephanie Plum and Jack Daniels. More serious than the Plum novels, yet not as graphic as the Daniels mysteries. I've had it on my TBR shelf for ages from a Half Price Books clearance sale and finally got around to it. It was a quick read and I liked it well enough to look for other books in the series.

Entertaining read (listen). I wasn't sure what to make of this book at first, as one other reviewer mentioned, a kind of serious Stephanie Plum. I think the author could have set up the bounty hunter business better. And there is no explanation of how she managed to catch up and find a car which had a 5 hours head start (she finally manages in South Dakota after chasing from Texas)but, all things being equal it held my interest while spending way too much time trying to plow myself out from under all this damn snow we're having. And so far, 11 hours of listening is no where near enough. Good thing I have about 400 years of listening backed up.… (més)

This one was brutal! It kept me breathless throughout the story that had multiple things going on through different voices telling the story.
Dixie is still the main character and she has her bounty hunting to do as well as bodyguard duty and the investigation into the vigilante group, Avenging Angels, to see to because she is worried it's actually people she knows and cares about who are taking the law into their hands.
The bodyguard detail is to look after the daughter of an actress out from California to film a sci-fi flick and her teenage daughter is none too happy to have a babysitter. She causes Dixie problems from the get-go and all Dixie wants to do is get her through the day without issue.
Add to the mix the Avenging Angels and the criminals they are after, these are the most intense scenes in the book. Not for the faint of heart.

Yowzah! This one was a humdingah of a story, very gritty and grim. The police were ready to call it with the 'granny bandits', but Dixie needed to know the root cause after witnessing the robbery committed by her neighbor, someone she thought she knew.
There are flashbacks throughout the book as Dixie reminisces about her relationship with Edna and Edna's son, Marty. Marty is shell-shocked to say the least and asks Dixie to look into the case to clear his mother's name.
There's a lot of duplicity going on and I was thrown for a loop several times as I listened to this suspense mystery. My jaw dropped towards the end...completely did not see the ending when it hit.
I can highly recommend this story and this series either as a handheld book and definitely as an audiobook. Peggity Price is perfect for this story.
