This novel is part of a trilogy however I had no problem enjoying it as a standalone.

The romance advances at more of a whirlwind pace (over the course of two weeks) than would generally be my preference however the author did a great job of crafting conversations that had depth to them so it did feel as though the hero and heroine had genuinely gotten to know one another.

I particularly liked the exploration of Kal’s grief and his complicated feelings in regard to his brother and sister-in-law. I also liked that even though he has many of the attributes that mark a man as alpha, his willingness to listen, to hear Star out, to weigh her opinions, made him seem like a modern likable guy which can’t always be said of alpha characters.

While the Presents line of books tends to mostly focus on drama, Star’s love of romantic novels added a fun element to this one, with mentions of some books and tropes alongside a grand gesture that incorporates classics, plus if like most romance readers you’ve received criticism for your taste in books you’ll appreciate that Star is an avowed defender of the genre.

I received this book through a giveaway.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and lovely romance story between Antonio Arcuri, head of Arcuri Enterprises, and his trusted and dependable PA, Emma Guilham. Antonio needs a fake fiancée to secure a business investment which he hopes to attain so it won’t fall to his rival who happens to be Antonio’s no-good father. Antonio is seeking revenge against his father for deserting and ruining his family. Emma is a cancer survivor, hoping to get her life back on track and doing the things she’s always wanted to do. Antonio and Emma were a wonderful couple who truly were meant for each other. I loved how Antonio was so kind, compassionate, and respectful towards Emma. And I liked that Emma was always trying to steer Antonio onto the right path to do the right thing. I also enjoyed Antonio’s very good friends Dimitri and Danyl who were like brothers to him. Such a wonderful read.… (més)

Seventeen-year-old Sofia De Loria is a student at a Swiss boarding school (no one knows that she's a princess). Sofia is in love with fellow student, seventeen-year-old Theo Tersi, a poor, illegitimate Greek guy who got into the posh boarding school on a scholarship. One night they are to meet at night secretly. Sofia never shows up and later Theo discovers that she left the school for good. He gets blamed for a prank she pulled with the headmaster's car and he is expelled. Theo was really counting on this scholarship to help himself and his mother for their future. He and his mother fall on hard times, he blames it all on Sofia, and he wants revenge. Ten years later, when they meet again, Theo may finally get what he wants...

This was a very enjoyable read. Sofia and Theo did have some things in common, like parents with health problems. (Theo's mother had a bad heart due to overwork and stress, Sofia's father was suffering from Alzheimer's.) I felt bad for Sofia, forced to return to her royal duties ten years ago, having to leave Theo without explaining anything, and the problems she had with her sick father. (She had to keep her father's health issues a secret for the sake of her country.)

Theo wanted the best for his mother. Her family wasn't close to her and didn't like that she had an illegitimate child (Theo). He eventually became extremely wealthy working in the vineyards, growing grapes, making wine...

This book had a lovely conclusion. Theo and Sofia had good chemistry and it was nice to see them finally get their happy-ever-after. This was the first Pippa Roscoe book I've read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I look forward to reading more books by this author.
