Gone with the Witch is the fifth book in the Witch Way Librarian Mysteries by Angela M. Sanders, and she just took the series into a fun, new direction that I am so excited to see how it continues to develop.

I read a lot of cozies, and paranormal cozies is my absolute favorite sub-genre. The Witch Way Librarian Mysteries is one series that I always keep an eye out for the next book, and one that I always recommend.

About 50% of the time I find myself enjoying the side characters (Scooby Gang) more than the main character, but in this series I love them all. There are so many varied and well written characters. I’m even enjoying the stretched out romance, because it’s not a main story line.

Besides all the fantastic characters, I love the premise of this series, a witch who recently came into her powers being helped by her deceased Grandmother through letters, and who gains power and wisdom from all the books in the library that talk to her. Oh, how I wish I was her!
And Sanders took it a step further in Gone with the Witch, by introducing a new way that characters can come to life and help out Josie in solving mysteries.
We also are introduced to a powerful nemesis, but are not sure who it could be yet, although I have an idea, and I’m excited to see if I’m correct when I read the next book in the series.

If you did not get it from reading this review, I highly recommend this series for anyone who enjoys cozies, mysteries, or the supernatural.

osie’s sister Jean is visiting while attending a workshop for life coaches. Josie’s mom insists she shouldn’t tell Jean about her magic powers, but it’s getting harder for her not to include her sister in the knowledge that all the women in her family - Jean included - have some sort of magical powers. Books speak to Josie, and she is going to need that special help when it comes to solving murders and keeping her sister safe. The sisters team up to eliminate suspects, but they really aren’t very good at it. What they are good at is putting themselves in danger. It’s a good thing Josie lives next door to the sheriff, and it’s a very good thing he has his eye on Josie, for more than one reason. This is a fun cozy, despite the murders, with a very intelligent cat and with books singing and dancing around the library when only Josie is there. Well written with great characters, this series is always a delight.… (més)

Witch Upon a Star by Angela M. Sanders is the fourth A Witch Way Library Mystery. It can be read as a standalone for those new to the series. However, reading the series in order will allow you to get to know Josie and her backstory. Witch upon a Star has Josie’s sister coming to town to take part in Cookie Masterson’s life coach seminar. Josie’s sister, Jean, is not known for making the best decisions. Josie needs to be careful that she does not reveal her magic to her sister. I like that Josie’s magic is through books. The books in the Wilfred library speak to her. I thought the book ballet was cute. The mystery was straightforward. I easily solved the whodunit long before the reveal. The twist was not difficult to figure out. I like how the books help Josie solve the mystery. Of course, the books sometimes get Josie into a little hot water. Their antics had me chuckling. I like how Rodney, Josie’s familiar, helps her. I would like to see Josie slow down and think through a decision or thought. If she thought through things, it would prevent some of the silly things she does. There is a significant amount of repetition. After a while, I could repeat the facts verbatim. I ended up doing a little skimming to get through to the end. Wilfred is filled with friendly residents. I like how they have welcomed Josie. Witch Upon a Star is a casual cozy with a book ballet, a sister reunion, a killing in the café, seminar kerfuffle, a magical & feisty feline, obliging books, and sleuthing librarian.… (més)
