Drew Carmichael has been Kit Forester’s longtime friend. So when Drew asks a favor of Kit, she considers it as good as done. In this instance, he makes no bones about informing her of how dangerous this particular favor is. Drew is a CIA Agent; his counterpart with the British M16 is Jonathon Parker. Jonathan is being set up as a traitor for leaking identification of other operatives. Drew needs Kit to get a message to him. No sooner does she get into the parking lot after meeting with Drew, that her estranged brother, Caleb, and his partner, Garrett Cantona, corner her. Caleb needs to talk so they follow her home. Kit has little time for her brother right now; she has to prepare for this trip. But not before she dines with her own friends. Unbeknownst to Caleb, Kit got to know Garrett the last time they were in town. Her friend, Vivi, asks, ‘You met or you met met?” She answers, “We met met, but we didn’t, uh, …we didn’t meet meet, if you know what I mean.”

Caleb and Garrett seem to be able to smell trouble and even though Kit is tight-lipped about her mission, they follow her to London. It’s a good thing since Kit manages to place herself straight in a killer’s sites.

This is the forth book in the series, but I felt OK about reading it as a standalone. Although, it is apparent that some of the main character info may be spoiled through reading out of order. Garrett even had a couple of chapters devoted to his POV. I didn’t expect that, but thought it was very smart of the author to handle it this way. There was more mystery than romance which is perfect for me. The overall story is multilayered, but not difficult to keep up with. I enjoyed Kit and the main characters as they were believable and detailed very well. I thought her friends were a hoot. Rating: 4 out of 5.

Not a bad book, but it never really "grabbed" me. I'm sure it would be a very enjoyable book for the right reader. Maybe I'll give it another shot another time.

The Frailty of Things by Tamsen Schultz.
This books centers around the main character Kit Forrester, a young writer, who becomes the target of a killer after she witnesses something she shouldn’t have. Also in the picture are her brother Caleb and his friend and Kit’s love interest Garret. This novel is the fourth in the series, but works as a standalone story and is an easy beach read, but it lacks in action scenes and suffers from “telling” and not “showing”. Even though the narrative perspective switches from Kit to Garret, much of the action happens either in the past or off screen. Even during the action sequences, the main character, Kit, doesn’t get to participate, just lets the guys take care of things. Also, when it comes to Caleb’s and Garret’s jobs, everything is a mystery, and the reader doesn’t get to see firsthand what they do. Overall, this novel is enjoyable but lacks in action and relies too much on dialogue to explain what happened or is happening.… (més)

I was new to this series, as well, but it wasn't an issue. Schultz gave just enough background information to help me understand that the characters had relationships previous to the beginning of this particular installment. It definitely piqued my interested, and I will be adding the other Windsor books to my 'To Read' list. :)

This was a quick, easy, good read! It had an interesting plot (although a few of the devices seemed a bit far-fetched), and nice characterization. The chemistry between the leads jumped off the page, and the lack of steamy sex scenes (which were obviously happening off-page) helped the plot to advance quickly, without seeming prudish.

Thanks to all involved for the advanced copy! I look forward to reading the other books in this series!
