The author of eighteen novels, Slaughter has sold more than 35 million copies of her books, which have been published in 37 languages and have debuted at #1 in the United Kingdom, Germany, and The Netherlands. Her first novel, Blindsighted (2001), was published in 27 languages and made the Crime Writers' Association's Dagger Award shortlist for "Best Thriller Debut" of 2001. She is also the 2015 CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger winner for novel Cop Town. Her novel, Pieces of Her, was published in 2018. The novel will be adapted into a television series of the same name and it will be released on Netflix.

Slaughter is a library advocate and founded Save the Libraries, a non-profit organization that campaigns to support US public libraries. The Save the Libraries fund has provided over $300,000 to the DeKalb County Public Library in Atlanta, Georgia.

Characters from Slaughter's two main series, Grant County and Will Trent (Atlanta), were brought together in her novels Undone (2009), titled Genesis internationally, and Broken (2010). In these novels, Will Trent and Sara Linton work cases set in Atlanta and Grant County, respectively.

This story is one wild ride! It was so suspenseful that I could not do my regular Friday errands yesterday until I finished the book. It had an amazing plot with an ending I did not see coming. There were alot of twists. I did not figure out where the story was ultimately going until I passed the halfway point in the story. However, the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. While I was reading I knew the ending was going to be good but was not prepared for it. It was incredibly satisfying. Author Karin Slaughter wrote a fantastic story and she is now one of my favorite authors. If you haven't read Pretty Girls you need to get a copy of it. You won't be disappointed but don't forget that you need an uninterrupted block of time to read it. I am actually speechless right now and cannot delve further into why the book is fantastic.… (més)

Karin Slaughter is such a good writer! Last Breath does not disappoint.

Last Breath is about attorney Charlie Quinn, and her 15-year-old client, Flora (Florabama Faulkner - great name!!), who wants to be emancipated from her seemingly abusive grandparents that are misappropriating funds from Flora's trust fund. Flora and Charlie bond over having suffered the loss of their mothers under tragic circumstances.

The plot thickens when Flora, the honor student Girl Scout, is surprisingly arrested for trafficking drugs. As the story unfolds, the reader is on edge, waiting for each new reveal to solve the multiple mysteries spun in Last Breath.

This is a good one!

This is a good one.

Blindsighted started slow, but with a good rhythm to it that made me want to keep going. I’ve read Karin Slaughter before, and it didn’t disappoint - neither did Blindsighted. It is worth the scene setting in the forefront.

The small county of Grant doesn’t see a lot of murders, but when Sybil Adams is found dying on a toilet of the small diner with a cross carved into her torso, things really start to heat up for the sheriff and the coroner; who will see another victim in short order, and then another.

There are a lot of characters involved, none without some baggage and a few with some secrets. Slaughter does a good job of keeping the story moving quickly while not confusing the reader with the large cast. I was deeply invested in Sarah, the coroner, Lena, the half-cocked deputy and sister of the first victim, Jeffrey, the sheriff who never falters in his duties, but sucks as a husband; or does he? The ancillary members of the book round out this incredibly well-written, layered book. You will find yourself speed-reading at the end to find out whodunnit.

TW: There are some graphic sexual violence scenes.

Five stars for Blindsighted. And while I am looking forward to my next Karin Slaughter read, like any good murder mystery, I need to rest in between - this one will haunt me for a day or two.
