A wonderful new series from an author I'd never heard of before.

We get a glimpse into Earth 7 years after magic has returned to the land, half of humanity has died off due to a plague, and a goodly percent of those left alive have had latent paranormal abilities awakened.

This lead to people becoming witches, wizards, vampires & trolls. Weres of all kinds, fairies, elves, and even jinn.

The story follows the capture of Amine & her brother Charles. We see their life in prison, how they deal with it, and the aftermath.

While the story is interesting, I couldn't give the book 5 stars for 2 reasons.

Character building is minimal, and the pacing is too fast. The book would have been better off exploring things a bit more to give the world a larger feel.

Hopefully this improves with the next book.

The 2nd book in the paranormal world series.

In this one we get see the main characters power grow, quite a bit. Unfortunately it's too much, too fast. Which is a problem throughout the whole book. Everything happens too damned fast, without enough detail to the surrounding world & the characters. Power levels, relationships, it all happens to fast.

I love the story the author is telling, and the exciting twists to things she has brought to her world. But the story suffers from lack of world building, and trying to speed things along to fit everything in.

This book should have really been two; telling of the events that lead up to Ireland, and then everything that happens there.

Ah well; still a good read. I did enjoy the battles that took place, and the things that occurred in Ireland. I hope book 3 improves in the flaws in 1 & 2.

I received a copy of The Mission by C.C. Solomon in exchange for an honest review.

Sheila and Denise are very good friends who are successful and attractive, but they are both single, not that that’s a bad thing because they’re holding out for someone who they think would be a perfect complement to them and their successful lifestyle. They are both under pressure from family and friends who think being a single gal is not where they should be and the pressure is on for them to get hitched or be part of a couple at least. They come upon a “fail proof” way to get a man in three months and so begins a string of dates with some not so ideal men – from mama’s boys to can’t get over the ex-wife to not sure if he’s gay or straight. They’re exhausted, is being single so bad after all?? I have got to say some of the guys these girls dated would send me to a convent to spare myself the grief! I liked the friendship between the girls and their silly banter. Some of those family member though, self-centered to say the least. This book touched on family, friendship, looking for love, and how friendship can turn to love.

The Mission is an entertaining story that engages the reader to follow best friends Sheila and Denise as they embark on a mission to find Mr. Right in three months. Set in Washington, DC, these two successful, attractive, single women's adventures in the crazy world of dating are filled with enough humorous trials and tribulations that will make you laugh-out-loud.

Who doesn't remember their own foray into the dating scene? I had no problem sympathizing and relating to Sheila and Denise, and when I think back to my own dating adventures, I could relate to their dilemma. I too had family and friends posing the dreaded question: "when are you going to find a man and settle down" (ugh), and even thought to myself plenty of times that singlehood might not be so bad after I had kissed my fair share of frogs. But what I took away from the dating experiences was that love will happen in its own sweet time, so be true to yourself, live your life, and just be happy.

In her debut novel, author C.C Solomon weaves a sassy fun tale that is filled with realistic and believable dating situations that had me shaking my head in agreement, snickering in amusement, and saying out loud "Amen sister, preach it to the choir!" I loved the wit, drama, humor, comedic dating situations, and lessons learned. I loved how the author began each chapter with a rule from the online dating guide, if you sit and think about it, they really do offer some valuable insight, advice, and guidance to those venturing out into the dating world.

If you are looking for an enjoyable chick lit novel about the dating game, romance, looking for love, personal lifestyles, friendships, and family drama, then The Mission is the book for you.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour event hosted by Chick Lit Plus Blog Tours.
