Odori is a traditional dance of Okinawa and this book magically employs images from other art forms--movement from dance, colour from painting, sounds from music--to tell the story of a family moving between Okinawa and the prairie of Southern Alberta. Although much of the story involves the horrors of World War II and the use of the beautiful island of Hamahiga in the Okinawan chain as a shield for Japan, the personal stories of courage and love are interwoven through the action.
