Reading Taylor's work continues to be a pleasure. As she outlines her experience teaching Religion 101 at a small private college in the south, she also shares her very personal response—something like a spiritual crush—on aspects of orthodoxy and orthopraxy as she keeps company with different faith traditions.

Is it luck, good fortune, or blessing that connects us with wise mentors in print? Whatever it is, I'm grateful that I found Barbara Brown Taylor. Most of the book is self-reflection of the author’s relationship with God and the dark, both physical darkness and spiritual. One interesting part was her experience in a wild cave (as supposed to a show cave). She detailed the clothing necessary and described the darkness well. The summary to me sounds as if she believes in God, but not in organized religion ways.
