P. L. Travers (1899–1996)

I came into this with preconceptions formed from the movie as a child. Needless to say, this was very much not what I was expecting. Instead of the beautiful, kind, and serene Julie Andrews, you have a vain, sarcastic, almost rude and less than attractive, Mary Poppins. While entertaining, I think this is one case where I prefer the movie.

Mary Poppins is a classical modern fantasy book because it is fun and interesting to read. Children might relate to the story or gain new perspective of the story through their creative imagination. This book is great for elementary children when wanting to create an activity related to the book.

Mary Poppins returns, falling from the sky like a shooting star! Soon Mary and the kids are off on a new round of marvelous adventures. A visit to Mr. Twigley's music box-filled attic, an encounter with the Marble Boy, a ride on Miss Calico's enchanted candy canes--all part of an average day out with the world's most beloved nanny.

Pulled down from the clouds at the end of a kite string, Mary Poppins is back. In Mary's care, the Banks children meet the King of the Castle and the Dirty Rascal, visit the upside-down world of Mr. Turvy and his bride, Miss Topsy, and spend a breathless afternoon above the park, dangling from a clutch of balloons.
