Sob!!! I really want to find a vegan recipe book that works for me and my family. Fun list of excuses but still does not contain my excuse... I AM ALLERGIC TO LEGUMES AND TREE NUTS!!!! I am always so hopeful with vegan recipes because I have a daughter who is allergic to eggs and a son who is (deathly) allergic to dairy. But all three of us are allergic to tree nuts. Anyone, anyone know of a vegan recipe book that does not rely heavily on nuts and beans?

Oh and fun, fun, fun, I'm also allergic to avocado and melons and carrots and corn. But at least I don't know of any recipe books rely on those ingredients for the majority of the recipes. Unfortunately it still cuts down on how many recipes I can use from the book.… (més)

[b:But My Family Would Never Eat Vegan!: 125 Recipes to Win Everyone Over—Picky kids will try it, hungry adults won't miss meat, and holiday traditions can live on!|28110843|But My Family Would Never Eat Vegan! 125 Recipes to Win Everyone Over—Picky kids will try it, hungry adults won't miss meat, and holiday traditions can live on!|Kristy Turner|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1465140471s/28110843.jpg|48118982] is full of familiar recipes that are not usually thought of as vegan recipes. These include those recipes that have always naturally been vegan, and vegan versions of classic American dishes. I thought of this as a beginner's guide to vegan family meals.

The recipes are a nice mix of 'quick and easy' and more challenging. The variety is nice, which is necessary for feeding a family with picky eaters, and one with that deplores having the same meals over and over again. Turner emphasizes making meals agreeable for picky eaters, and providing approachable options that will not panic easily-alarmed meat eaters. She does not neglect the more health-conscious vegan recipes, they are included as well.

Highly recommended for all home chefs, especially those with families to feed, and those interested in taking a turn down Vegan Boulevard.

This is a fantastic and entertaining cookbook for anyone looking to begin or add to a vegan (or similar) diet! Not only are the recipes eye-catching, but the author even titles her chapters after common misconceptions against a plant based diet (such as "I could never give up cheese!", "Where would I get my protein?", and "It's all rabbit food.") and then includes recipes that prove them wrong. I personally loved the dessert ideas, the "But I scream for ice cream!" chapter. And, although I can't have soy either and had to skip over the recipes that included tofu, there were more than enough delicious recipes to make up for those I couldn't have.

If you’re a waffling vegan newbie, on-the-fence vegetarian, or veg-curious omnivore, this book will banish your doubts.

But I Could Never Go Vegan! countered the many reasons people give for not going vegan. I picked it up because I'm always looking for 1) new veggie-focused meals to try and 2) ideas to help me reduce the amount of dairy in my meals. The author being a former cheese-lover herself, I thought I could trust her recipes to actually satisfy my dairy cravings. Frankly, sometimes I'll read recipes online, try 'em out, spit 'em out, then think, "Does this person even know or remember what [insert dairy-beef-poultry here] actually tastes like?!!" Kristy Turner so very obviously remembers. Her recipe for tempeh "bacon" was the first time in all my seven years of never eating pork, but still missing crispy bacon, that came close to replicating both the flavor and texture of real bacon.

I loved how this cookbook was organized by the reason one might give for not going vegan: it's more expensive (which it is despite this author and other health gurus saying it's not; sadly, healthy food costs more than junk food nowadays, no matter where you shop); I couldn't give up cheese; no soup again!; it's all rabbit food; my friend's won't want to come over for dinner; and so many more. So all I had to do was think of a reason, look up its section, then thumb through the easy-to-follow instructions.

I like to see what my food is going to look like. So it will probably come as no surprise what I think Kristy did better than most of the healthy cookbooks I've read in the past couple years: She included a COLOR photo for EVERY recipe!

4 stars

(because I wanted more recipes per reason/chapter)
