I received this through Librarything early reviewers and just finally got around to finish reading it. Why did it take so long? Well, this reads like an academic term paper and has no flow and is not particularly easy to read. Normally I like term paper style but I don't know enough about this to really understand at all what is going on. There is a huge amount of translations yet I would have assumed that there would be more understandable commentary to help someone understand what it means.

Song of Riddles:Deciphering the Song of Songs is an interesting attempt by the author to explain
this poem as a passionate love relationship between humans and the Divine. Geula Twersky invites the
reader to “join in the search for the theological meaning”. I am skeptical about this argument. Because of the erotic nature of this poem, I have never thought of it as anything but a love poem about and between humans. The author has gathered terminology from other biblical authors who use similar themes, motifs, images and text to explain a hidden meaning as to how this could be shown as God’s passionate love for his people. My question here is which biblical author is borrowing from whom?
I definitely would encourage other readers, interested in trying to understand meanings of biblical writings, to read this book. It is well written and easy to follow her explanations.

The Song of Riddles is a lovely way to start the year - actually Ive been dipping in and out of it for a few weeks now.

It's a deep dive into the Song of Solomon of the Old Testament Bible with lots of time to wallow in the poetry and also read the the analysis too.

They say a joke you have to explain isn't a good joke.

Well sometimes hearing a poem explained - teasing out the secret forgotten references, the little asides, the Biblical half quotes - makes the expedience deeper and richer.

And here the little asides and jokes are deeper and better in the original language.

It's a very sensuous piece of love poetry and a deep and rich allegory and so so much more. Really enjoyed this one.
