This informational book is appears to be a small history book for children in the Civil Rights Movement. They begin by explaining the discrimination America once had towards Blacks and how they moved into equality with White people in this country. They tell of Rosa Parks, the bus boycott, Martin Luther King Jr., and other influences of the Civil Rights Movement both good and bad.
This informational book is easy for younger children to understand and get a solid basis for what life was like before there was equality. The book gives accurate information and includes real photographs during the movement.
The setting taking place is all realistic since all the pictures are photographs. The settings include pictures of racism and riots, giving an accurate image of life for Black people during this time.
I would use this book in a classroom to teach children about discrimination and how it affects those around us as well as ourselves. I would also use this book to teach the students about the Civil Rights Movement and the strength the Black people had to get out of the injustices done to them.
