- Professor Vipond specializes in twentieth century English Canadian intellectual, cultural and media history. Dr. Vipond has published a number of articles in these areas including "The Beginnings of Public Broadcasting in Canada: the CRBC, 1932-1936," in The Canadian Journal of Communication 19.2 (1994) and "The Mass Media in Canada: The Empire Day Broadcast of 1939," in The Journal of the Canadian Historical Association, New Series, 14 (2003). Her 1989 publication The Mass Media in Canada is now in its third edition and has also been published in a Chinese edition. She is currently working on a sequel to Listening In: The First Decade of Canadian Broadcasting, 1922-1932 (McGill-Queen's University Press, 1992) and has begun a project on censorship and propaganda at the CBC during World War II. She is a fellow of Concordia's Centre for Broadcasting Studies, where she has participated in an interdisciplinary project on CBC radio drama. Dr. Vipond was President of the Canadian Historical Association from 2001 to 2003. Dr. Vipond retired from active teaching on July 1, 2008
