This was a love letter to a loved one who has passed. I can totally relate, losing my younger sister a day after her 20th birthday. I can empathize and sympathize with Meredith. It took me a long time to “get over” the death of my sister. The way the author wrote Meredith’s coming to terms with losing her sister and realizing its ok, life does go on. It just becomes a new normal. The love story between Meredith and Wit was not cheesy at all, it was the perfect way for her to break out over her shell, come back to life, per se. The secondary characters were well written too. Sarah may have been the older cousin but her feelings came straight across the page, as did the feelings of Luli. When someone has never lost a loved one, it is hard for them to comprehend what that person is going through and the author was able to get that across the page. This is one that will definitely go on the library shelves!… (més)

Meredith usually holidays at Martha's Vineyard but last Summer didn't because her sister had been tragically killed in a car accident. This year, she and her family are forced to face all their cousins and friends again as Meredith's cousin (and her sister's best friend) Sarah is getting married there over the holiday break.
Straight away, everything is different, there is a Claire shaped hole in the island and Meredith feels some resentment coming from her friends who tried to reach out to her when she was grieving but she just pushed them away and clung to her boyfriend Ben. (Who has just broken up with her.) Enter Wit, who Meredith accidentally gives a black eye to on the ferry coming over which wouldn't be such a big deal except he is in the bridal party! Whoops! The two instantly hit it off and when Meredith's grandparents open the annual Assassin game ( a water fight where you pick off a target you have been assigned and collect their target until only 2 are left) they decide to form an alliance because they both know the members of each side of the bridal party.
But is Meredith ( as she falls hopelessly for Wit) just ditching her friends again and not facing her grief and their grief, and what secrets is Wit hiding? There is one that will shock Meredith to the core.

One for fans of One of us is lying and Inheritance Games and We were liars. Alludes to sex but no descriptions, has swearing especially when the Assassin game gets going and targets are picked off - so Mature readers.… (més)
