Warwick Charlton

This book has two parts. The first part is the story the building of the Mayflower II, from Warwick Charlton’s dream to its setting sail for America, while the second part is Warwick’s journal of the voyage. The first part moves along briskly and only once or twice does the writing become technical when describing the actual building of the ship, making of her sails, rigging and outfitting her. The second part has an entry for every day at sea. Even on days when very little happened there is a passage, some having almost nothing to do with the voyage. Still, the journal gives a good idea of what it was like to sail a small 17th century ship across the Atlantic and a glimpse of what it was like for the pilgrims.… (més)
