Stephanie Watson’s addition to the Career Profiles series is a comprehensive biography of Anderson Cooper. It includes a family history, Cooper’s childhood and interests, early career, and defining moments. The main text is broken up with sidebars covering interesting side points such as Cooper’s prematurely gray hair and with photographs illustrating relevant details from both Cooper’s and the news industry’s past. Watson also devotes a good amount of space to the way in which Cooper’s reporting style fits into the established conventions of journalism, bringing to attention controversial aspects of his career. While the reading level appears to be suitable for fifth through seventh grades, the topic and interest levels might mesh better with assignments for sixth grade and up. Watson does not include formal citations, but textually indicates the source of quotations. She also includes a timeline, glossary, bibliography, and sources of further information. Sources include several works by Cooper -- including his autobiography -- as well as examples of his reporting.
