The rediscovery that each one of us can achieve the direct, transformative connection with the sacred realms lies right at the heart of the spiritual reawakening sweeping the Western world-a phenomenon explored by anthropologist Hank Wesselman, Ph.D., in his widely read book The Journey to the Sacred Garden. Now, in Spirit Medicine, Dr. Wesselman is joined by his wife, transpersonal medical practitioner Jill Kuykendall, RPT, to present you with a cross-cultural consideration of illness, healing, and health care from the ancient wisdom of the traditional peoples.

Spirit Medicine opens a window into a universal worldview that will help you:

Understand the classic causes of illness-an essental step in true healing.
Work with the four levels of spiritual healing.
Expand your connections to inner sources of wisdom and power; and
Deepen your contacts with your healing spirits and healing masters.

Spirit Medicine will provide you with a transpersonal key for success to enhance mind-body medicine. It will also provide you with a perspective derived from the Hawaiian kahuna tradition in which knowledge of the soul cluster, as well as the multi-leveled nature of reality, forms the foundation. Included is an experiential CD of shamanic drummng and rattling to be used with specific exercises and meditations designed to enhance your healing practice for yourself and others.

Spirit Medicine reconsiders and reworks the time-tested techniques pioneered by the shamans of the indigenous peoples, providing nontribal Westerners with extaordinarily effective insights into healing and problem solving.

Anthropologist Hank Wesselman, Ph.D., has worked for more than 30 years with an international team of scientists investigating the mystery of human origins in East Africa's Great Rift Valley. He has spent much of his life with indigenous people, and in the 1970s, while doing fieldwork in southern Ethiopia, he began to have spontaneous visionary experiences strikingly like those of tradtional shamans. His experiences are documentsed in his autobiographical trilogy: Spiritwalker, Medicinemaker, and Visionseeker. He is also the author of The Journey to the Sacred Garden.

Jill Kuykendall, RPT (Hank's wife), is a registered physical therapist and tanspersonal medical practitioner who has worked in the standard Western medical paradigm for more than 20 years. In addition to her work in many different health-care settings, she has functioned as co-facilitator for the Mercy Healing Circle, participated in the Mercy Healthcare Healing Environment Task Force as a community member consultant, and has served as a member of the Sutter Healhcare Wellness and Healing Network. She is now in private practice at the Center for Optimum Health in Roseville, California (near Sacramento), specializing in soul-retrieval work.

'Spirit Medicine reveals an indigenous medical system that is so sophisticated that it makes ours look amateurish in many respects, especially regarding the role of spirit, consciousness, and love in healing. This book is a window that sheds vital light on our own healing system, without which it will never be complete. Wesselman and Kuykendall are skillful guides, and a bridge between two worlds, Spirit Medicine does what any good book should do: It helps the reader translate words into a living reality, thereby changing one's life.'-Larry Dossey, M.D., the author of Healing Beyond the Body, Reinventing Medicine, and Healing Words

'True medicinework always begins with dealing with our own issues. How we chose to respoind to our life challenges results in our experiencing many levels of initiation, both the positive as well as the negative. deepened self-realization results, and it is then that the prcess of self-healing truly begins. That's why this book begins with a consideratin of self-nature adn concludes with exercises devoted to self-healing.

'Once we've restored ourselves with the full and loving support of our spirit helpers, we can begin to extend our knowledge and abilities outward into the fabric of the community, with these wise beings serving as our advisors and teachers. Through direct experience, we learn that healing is primarily an act of spirit...and not the result of personal will plus pharmaceuticals, although they, too, play their parts.'-Hank Wesselman and Jill Kuykendall

In the brilliant visionary tradition of Carlos Castaneda, anthropologist Hank Wesselman first documented his spiritual journey in the acclaimed account Spiritwalker. Now he continues his travels through the spirit world in this astonishing book, leading us into the heart of one of the greatest mysteries of existence.

Dr. Wesselman's inspiring quest began with a dramatic encounter on the island of Hawaii. Though he had feared his connection to Nainoa, a kahuna initiate and fellow mystic traveler, would be severed when he moved to San Diego, Wesselman would continue to merge minds with Nainoa. Over the next five years, the true purpose of their profound yet cryptic contact took shape. Wesselman had gained access to some inner doorway, putting him in the presence of a transcendent life force and intelligence. On the threshold of a dazzling new understanding of nature, he was a shaman in training, an initiate into the sacred, secret healing powers of the spirit world.

This remarkable book gives us an unprecedented glimpse into the origin and the destiny of our species. Hank Wesselman has brought back from his extraordinary travels an extraordinary message: the keys to personal power and to the healing of all humankind.

This was a super fast read. Nothing I didn't already know before I'm afraid. It comes with a CD with both drumming and rattling, which some day I will need to listen to.
