If you think you know what's going on with the war in Iraq, you're probably wrong. Getting the information from the soldiers and the people living it is the best way to know what is going on; the good, the bad, the ugly and the triumpant.
I've seen the bookcover photo before, but never knew the true story behind the photo. It was taken by the man that wrote this book.
This book enlightened me, made me cry, made me frustrated, angry and has made me proud of our U.S. Soldiers and the British soldiers too.
This is not only a keeper, it's the type of book you want to read with a highlighter in your hand.

Autobiography of Michael Yon. I found most interesting the parts where he talks about the kind of person Special Forces accepts and rejects --- not *at all* what you'd think, given Hollywood stereotypes. While I did enjoy it greatly, I definitely recommend "Moment of Truth in Iraq" if you are trying to decide which to read. That one will make you want to read this one, but this one wouldn't necessarily make you want to read "Moment of Truth..." and you shouldn't miss that one.

He is recognized as one of the most legitimate journalists to cover the war. No one else has been there as long or been through as much.

Compelling writing. I would recommend this to *anyone* interested in the war, for or against. It's a nice change of pace to read about good things that are happening in Iraq. While he is not blind to the mistakes that have been made, he focuses on how commanders have learned from them and are working with community leaders to make neighborhoods safe. He discusses how many soldiers and commanders have learned the importance of "taking the high road" in am Iraqi culture that reveres strength and to whom compassion is an unusual but now greatly compelling ingredient in what makes a strong soldier and leader. I wish everyone in America could read this book; it gave me hope again.… (més)

A free lance reporters inside view of the combat for Fallujah, Iraq. A former Green Beret, Michael Yon's account is as objective as any I've read of the battle for Fallujah and the strategy of Gen. D. Petraeus
